SetForward

A weightlifting log that runs on your phone. It records what you lifted and shows what to aim for next time, calculated from your own history.

No account. No cloud. No ads. Your data stays on your device.

What it does

Log sets

Weight, reps, done. Every entry saves immediately, so a workout survives backgrounding the app or restarting the phone.

Show a target for every set

SetForward reads your logged history for an exercise and states what to aim for, along with the reason it picked that number.

Track each side separately

An exercise can be marked unilateral. Left and right are then logged, targeted and charted independently.

Calculate plates

Open the breakdown from a set’s weight during a workout and see the per-side plates for it, using the standard plate set for your unit. The bar or base weight is editable there and remembered per exercise, so a machine that starts at 12 lb opens at 12 lb next time. When a target cannot be built exactly, the nearest loads below and above are stated as facts.

Time rest

The timer starts when you complete a set. The default duration is yours to set.

Hold your routines

Your exercises, working sets, rep ranges, weight increments, rest durations and notes. Three editable starter packs exist if you would rather not begin from an empty screen.

Keep history

Every finished workout with all its sets, per-exercise history, and three plain records per exercise: heaviest weight, most reps in a set, best session volume.

Chart one metric at a time

Heaviest set, total reps, or volume, over 30, 90, 180 days or all time. Computed from completed sets of completed workouts.

Count consistency, plainly

Completed workouts over rolling 7- and 28-day windows, and across eight seven-day periods. An optional weekly target turns those into percentages. That is the whole feature — there is no streak.

Import from Hevy

Point it at a Hevy CSV export and it adds those completed workouts to your history. It only adds; nothing already there is changed or removed, and re-importing the same file does nothing.

Back up to a file

Export your data as JSON and restore it later. The file is yours.

Pounds or kilograms, your choice. One dark theme. Portrait.

What it deliberately does not do

  • No account. No sign-up, no login, no profile, no email address.
  • No cloud. Your workout data is never uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload it to.
  • No ads, ever. No analytics, no tracking SDKs.
  • No streaks, badges, levels or XP. Nothing in the app nudges, shames or rewards you.
  • No coaching and no generated programs. SetForward does not decide what you should train.
  • No AI. The target is arithmetic you can check by hand.
  • Free during beta. If SetForward ever charges, your logged data and your exports will never be locked.
  • No social feed, following or sharing.
  • No nutrition, bodyweight or measurement tracking.
  • No Apple Health or Health Connect integration.

How the target is calculated

The rule is deterministic and the reasoning is shown next to the number. Which rule runs depends on your training goal.

Under General fitness, Build muscle and Lose fat & maintain muscle — three goals that run one shared rule — each set progresses on its own.

SetForward looks at what that set number did last time and applies one of three outcomes. If the set reached the top of your rep range, its weight goes up by your increment and its target returns to the minimum reps. If it came in under its own previous best at the same weight, the weight holds and the target is the better of the two. Otherwise the weight holds and the target is one more rep than that set did last time, never above the top of your range.

Under Get stronger, the session is judged as a whole rather than set by set.

The weight goes up when your first set reaches the top of the range and every set clears the minimum. Otherwise the weight holds. Rep counts are only ever compared at the same load, so the session after an increase is not read as a decline.

Your goal changes when load is added rather than reps. It never picks exercises, edits your routine, or changes your sets or rep ranges.

If more than 21 days have passed since you last did an exercise, the app notes how long it has been and says you may want to start lighter and work back up. That note is informational — it does not change the target and does not alter your history.

Your data

Everything lives in a database inside the app on your phone. Export a backup whenever you want; it is a plain JSON file you can open and read. Deleting the app deletes the data with it, so export first if you want to keep it.
